Mobile court to cheack indiscremate dumping of refuse

The General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Alhaji Saad Ayuba Dan-Musa, has said that mobile courts will soon be established for the prosecution of offenders who drop all sorts of wastes in inappropriate places, especially road medians in Ilorin, the state capital.

Alhaji Dan-Musa explained that the proposed mobile courts was part of the plans to finding a lasting solution to the rate at which offenders dump wastes indiscriminately in strategic points in Ilorin metropolis.

The General Manager disclosed this at the town Hall meeting organized by the members of Integrity Forum group, Ilorin East Local Government where he  delivered a lecture on the "Proliferation of Wastes in our Community and the way forward" yesterday,  Saturday 15th May, 2021 at  Government Secondary School Hall, Ilorin.

He attributed what he called “sudden increase  in wastes” in the community to the influx of people into the state, adding that there is only one dumpsite in the State capital and proposed more to cut across each Local Government Area in the state.

The KWEPA boss encouraged traditional rulers to help the agency in educating and enlightening the populace on the dangers inherent in the act of improper waste disposal.

Dan-Musa further clarified the difference between the Commercial and Social Wastes Contractors, stressing that only the commercial wastes contractors are under KWEPA’s jurisdiction.

The Chairman of the Integrity Forum, Comrade Mohammed Salihu, acknowledged the government's efforts in waste management, adding that the populace should cooperate with government in ensuring a greener Kwara.
