KWEPA inaugurates Offa Weekly Market Sanitation


The General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Alhaji Saad Ayuba Dan-Musa has inaugurated the Weekly Market Sanitation at Owode Market in Offa, Offa Local Government Area. 

 Speaking at the occasion, Alhaji Dan Musa urged  the people of Owode Market to always ensure the market is clean and tidy in order to prevent diseases and other ailments that may arise from dirty environments.

According to him, the market is an essential part of the economy; hence, the need to promote cleanliness in the markets. 

Dan-Musa said that the pilot scheme of the weekly market Sanitation had already kicked off in Ilorin, the State Capital, while also noting that there is the need to ensure compliance in all the markets of the State, including Owode Market. 

He talked about the opportunities involved when wastes are properly recycled, also known as "Waste to Wealth", which, he said, included generating gas, electricity, blocks which could be used for interlocking among others.

 The General Manager added that there is the need for regular fumigation of public places to avert potential health hazards.

He also highlighted  some of the dangers associated with the issue of land encroachment such as avoidable road accidents. 

Earlier in his speech, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, appreciated the KWEPA team and promised to support and encourage them in having a smooth operation during the Weekly Sanitation. 

The Iyaloja of Offa Market, Alhaja 
Idayat Ishola embraced the idea of weekly sanitation in the market. She showed her enthusiasm towards the programme and assured the team of maximum cooperation from the Market people.
