Environmental Hazard: KWEPA Boss Cautions Automobile Workshop Owners on Oil Spillage

The General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental  Protection Agency, (KWEPA), Alhaji Saad Ayuba Dan-Musa, has issued a warning to automobile (mechanic) workshop owners to stop constituting environmental nuisance and ensure cleanliness of their surroundings.

He made this known while on a monitoring visit to some workshops as part of the  weekly environmental exercise, adding that abandoned vehicles on the road side have become hidden places for criminals and hiding of dangerous weapons. He called for the immediate evacuation of some abandoned vehicles in their custody, which should be returned to the owners for security reasons and environmental safety.

Dan-Musa expressed his displeasure at the high level of pollution and environmental nuisance caused by some of the workshops through oil spilage on the soil which affects the soil nnutrients and under-ground water.

The General Manager called on the  Nigeria Automobile Technician Association (NATA) to organize a seminar in collaboration with the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) on environmental management to keep them abreast on do's and don'ts of environmental laws.
