Follow Environmental Laws on Water Discharge: Risk facing Sanctions- Dan-Musa.

 Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency has warned  fish farmers in the state to desist from acts that are capable of polluting the water in their operating environment or risk facing the wrath of the law as the government will not tolerate anything that will endanger the lives of the residents of the state.

The General Manager of the Agency, Alhaji Saad Ayuba Dan-Musa  gave this warning while receiving the Executive members of Kwara State Fishv Farmers Association (KWAFFA) and Integrated Fish Farmers Association(IFFA) in his office on Thursday.

He informed the delegation that obtaining the Environmental Management Permit before fishery activities  commence "is a must as this is to ensure that the location of the farm is not one detrimental to the health of the community residents, and also to ensure that all environmental regulations on fish farming are duly followed".

The HOD Laboratory, Mr Hassan Likpata also told the delegates that  treating the effluent before releasing it back into the river is non negotiable. 

He further charged them to comply with the use of blue tank method which is a proven and effective way of treating effluents.

Earlier, the secretary of the association, Mr Onaeko Ayo appreciated the efforts of the agency in ensuring standards. He said that everything discussed would be related to the members and that every member would give her maximum cooperation to the government.
