KWSG Seals Four Hotels for Non-compliance to Environmental Laws

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), has sealed four hotels within Ilorin metropolis for failure to obtain the Environmental Health Permit thereby disobeying the government.

The hotels; Florida, Savannah, Amasi and Cherish Hotels were sealed in accordance with KWEPA law section 51 for lack of evidence of fumigation and also due to no  evidence of waste collectors patronage which automatically culminate to indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The order to carry out the sealing of the hotels was given by the General manager of the Agency, Alhaji Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa who disclosed that the affected hotels had previously been issued abatement notices and letter of noncompliance but still they refused to do the necessary.

Alhaji Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa said "everyone is equal under the law and other hoteliers who are totally compliant with all environmental laws are not in any way stupid, so those who have failed to comply must be ready to dance to the music".

The Head of Hotel Monitoring Unit, Mrs Musa Wulemat Shuaib while speaking to the Hoteliers disclosed that fumigation is mandatory and nonnegotiable as it must be carried out quarterly by certified and registered fumigators to ensure that the environment is disinfected and is safe for lodgers.
Mrs Musa Wulemat Shuaib further stated that  failure of the hotels to provide evidences of patronizing waste collectors mean that they are guilty of indiscriminate dumping  of refuse and that means that they are jeopardizing the efforts of the state government in keeping the state clean.

She said that sealing the hotels will be a form of deterrent to others who usually do not want to comply with environmental laws.
