Kwara State Government Reiterates Commitment to Citizens Health

Kwara State Government, through its Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has called on the Association of Table Water Producers(ATWAP), Kwara State chapter to make the health safety of consumers a top priority.

The charge was made by the General Manager of the Agency, Alhaji Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa in a meeting with the executive members of the association which held at the agency.

Alhaji Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa said that Lassa fever has been discovered in other states of the nation and that Kwara State Government is taking proactive measures to ensure that the deadly disease does not find its way into the state.

He told the visitors that proper fumigation of their water factories and environs is non negotiable as the agency's major priority is on health, safety and prevention.

The Head of Department, Waste Management Control, Mrs Olawumi Adedotun, in her remarks said that "water is life and that there are many unregistered and substandard factories  with fake NAFDAC registration number operating in town; an act that endangers the life of innocent citizens.

She encouraged the water producers to ensure that all the required facilities  are put in place and approval secured  from the designated body before commencement of operation.

The Head of Legal Department, Mr Saadu Azeez, also  observed that majority of the sachet water factories do not conduct medical fitness examination for the people they employ to work with them, which,he said, "is outrightly wrong".

He further stated that the report on water analysis is to be made available for presentation during inspection.

The President of the Association, Mr Kayode Wahab, appreciated the continuous support of the agency and promised that all the issues discussed will be implemented.

Present at the meeting were the Secretary of the Agency, Mrs Idayat Folorunsho, Mr Rufus Adebayo, Mrs Balkis Isiaka and Mr Abdullahi Ghatta.
