KWEPA Laments Poor Environmental attitude

.....calls it a setback to environmental sanity

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, (KWEPA) has expressed its displeasure at the attitude of some members of the public on compliance to environmental laws while also lamenting that the citizen's poor attitude to maintaining the environment, has been a factor posing threat to environmental sanity in the state.

The General Manager of the Agency, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, disclosed this to the public recently, during a radio program at Royal F.M. Tanke, Ilorin.


Alh Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa disclosed that the timely intervention of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq  in the procurement and placement of bigger rorobins in strategic places within the state capital; a means to control and manage social waste alongside the Agency's engagement of commercial waste contractors to man the enlightened areas, as well as all government regulated premises.

Dan-Musa expressed disappointment at the alarming rate at which indiscriminate dumping persists in the state saying that seeing such ill act at this time is seriously uncalled for despite the agency's unceasing efforts in curbing environmental menace in every part of the state.

Dan-Musa enumerated some of the efforts and models the agency has devised in curbing environmental nuisance in the state to include, regular routine inspection and sensitization program both on the field and on the radio. House-to-house inspection to caution the public on open defecation as well as enlighten the inhabitants on the need to have good toilet facilities, and the general maintenance of their surrounding in order for them to enjoy a healthier life.

Furthermore, Ayuba assured the public that the Agency under his leadership will not relent efforts in ensuring that its statutory mandates which is making the state clean and green to live for its citizenry, will by no conditions be jeopardized while urging the general public on a positive change of attitude and strict compliance to environmental laws to avoid facing serious sanctions.

Speaking on pest control, the HOD Pest Control Unit of the Agency, Mr Rufus Adebayo, disclosed that the service of pest control covers a wide range which should be extended to both social and regulated premises in the state.  

Adebayo advised all the regulated premises, like schools, food outlets and the likes to embrace the culture of fumigation, even after the accumulated wastes in the rorobins and debris in the public medians are evacuated to forestall any disease or health havoc.
