The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has charged the state office of the National Hajj Commission to promote environmental cleanliness as it prepares for the forthcoming Hajj for intending pilgrims.
The General Manager of the agency, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, represented by the Head of Department, Pest Control Unit, Mr. Rufus Adebayo, gave the charge during an impromptu inspection visit to the commission.
Alh. Dan-Musa explained that the visit was out of the need to make sure the commision's premises comply with environmental sanitation laws as it hosts intending Hajj plugrims.
Dan-Musa led team was received by the Zonal Coordinator, National Hajj Commission, Mr. Taofeeq Akinwale, who conducted the team round the premises of the commission to observe and ascertain its sanitary level and compliance to environmental laws.
During the exercise, many lapses were discovered in the place hence, extensive sensitization and recommendations were given to the management on how such menace could be averted before the agency's next visit.
The National Coordinator of the Commission disclosed that the present deplorable condition of the place was due to the effect of Covid -19 pandemic causing its operation to be on hold for years now.
Akinwale also explained that steps had been taken to get the place fixed and make it workable again, adding that the commission had earlier sought the government's intervention in that regard.
He said that work will soon commence as soon as possible to ensure full preparedness for the upcoming Hajj exercise.
