KWSG  reaffirms its committment to safety of lives and properties.

... as scores of animals died on suspected poison at Olam Grains Company. 


Sequel upon the  reported case of environmental hazard suspected to have claimed lives of some animals at Olam grains Company, at Ogbondoroko, Asa Local Government of the State, the State Government has reaffirmed its unreserved committment to strengthening safety of lives and properties in the state. 

This was revealed by the General Manager, Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency,  Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa along side the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Remilekun Banigbe, during an urgent official call paid to the place to verify and ascertain the root cause of the sudden death toll on animals in that area. 

The State Environmental team, while interfacing with the Mogaji of Ogbondoroko, Alh. Ibrahim Babatunde Ajape on the matter, restated the led administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq's unabated priority  toward ensuring that safe and improved standard of living is fully delivered to all and sundry in the state. 

While investigating the matter, even though, it was still not clear to the team the true cause of this incident, but according to the information gathered, it was suspected to be due to the recent fumigation carried out within the Company's premises. 

Speaking on behalf of the Community, The Community Liaison Officer, Alh. Ibrahim Isiaq, who explained that the matter is under control, adding that meeting had been held towards investigating and addressing the issue with the Company, hoping that the final resolve would proffer lasting solution in the end. 

Meanwhile, the KWEPA boss, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa has advised that whenever any fumigation be carried out by any regulated premises, the agency need to be consulted to guide them on basic professional knowhow on chemical types and other health safety precautions. 

Alh. Ayuba Dan-Musa also warned that, it is pertinent as part of its agency's responsibilities, that pre-inspection, and post-inspection exercise be done on any premises due for fumigation for efficiency and proper certification of such exercise. 

Earlier speaking with the management of Olam grains, Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Remilekun Banigbe, ordered that proper investigation be carried out into the matter to ascertain its cause, adding that the Ministry be eventually furnished with a comprehensive report on the matter. 

She equally advised that, an autopsy be done on some of the dead animals so as to clear the air on the matter and to avert possible recurrence of such occurrence. 

Meanwhile, the Human Resources Manager of the Company, Mr. Solomon Makinde, assured the Environmental team of its immediate readiness to heed to government's instructions to ensure autopsy is done on the dead animals and the report on it would be forwarded to the government appropriately.
