KWEPA Charges Manufacturing Companies On Environmental and Health Safety precautions.

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), has charged manufacturing companies in the state to beef up efforts in observing all environmental and health safety measures in their mode of operations.

The general manager of the agency, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, gave the charge yesterday during an inspection tour paid to some of the manufacturing industries operating along Ogbondoro axis, Afon area, in Asa Local Government Area of the state.

Alh Dan-Musa, explained that the inspection was to keep all the Industries abreast of some of the  intrecacies of the agency's environmental laws, checkmating their level of compliance and adherence to those laws to foster health safety within their premises and the residents in the areas.

Alh. Sa'ad, addressing some of the Management Staff of the industries, emphasized on governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq admistration's priority and huge investment on ensuring clean environment, adding that proper hygienic standard should be embraced to consolidate government's efforts.

" it is incumbent on all the industries to shun any practice capable of  stifling government's desire in making the state a clean, safer and habitable place for all," he said.

Ayuba explained that the industries must check various environmental nuisance varying from effluent discharge, noice pollution,  discharge of both liquid and solid waste, gaseous emition among others, which are seriously injurious to human health.
 
"as the sole regulatory body in the state, we are very much concerned at making sure that both human and inhuman activities in the course of your production do not pose any challenge to your working staff, immediate inhabitants and the general environment in the state, noted, the general manager.

Similarly, in continuance of it inspection exercise, the agency's general manager alongside its staff,  took a tour round several manufacturing companies of different products like, foam, water, phamachetical products, chemical  within Asa and Ilorin West Local Government of the State.

He urged  all the Industries in the area  to patronize government accredited fumigators, waste consultants for tidiness of its premises adding that regular Environmental Health Safety Report, Environmental Impact Assessment, usage of Personal Protective Equipment by staff, water treatment analysis be observed as when due; also  that gaseous particulated matters be regulated to permissible limit to curb against any health hazard.

In his response, one of the company visited, a grain and animal feeds production company along the area, the Human Resource Manager of the company, Mr Solomon Makinde,  said that its company, being a multinational firm,has serious regard for global health safety standard and is ready to cooperate with the agency on all its recommendations.
