KWEPA Harps on Environment Higiene, says it's requires collective effort.

The General Manager, Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa,  has  urged corporate bodies and individuals in the state to see environmental cleanliness as a collective effort.

Dan- Musa made the call at the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority,  Headquarters, Ilorin, during a courtsey visit to the federal government agency.

Alh. Sa'ad, during the meeting with the management of LNRBDA, explained that there was  an urgent need for the two agencies  to syndicate effort in controlling people's poor attitude of indiscriminate dumping of waste into  drainages and  river banks, adding that such synergy will inhibit adverse effect on the health of the general public and it's environs.

He said: "we must not allow any form of disease in our environment; and we must be aware of the advent of Lassa fever and the recent monkey pox in the neighboring state, hence preventive measures be devised against such horrible occurrence.

Speaking about environmental cleanliness in  the Basic School of the LNRBDA,  Dan-Musa advised that the management take immediate step towards addressing some of the environmental deficits observed in its premises in the course of the agency's routine inspection.

"we want to enjoin the management of this office  to cooperate with  KWEPA, to see that its environment wears hygienic look, especially to ensure that our students in Basic School within this premises enjoy clean and habitable environment as they are government children.

"We equally recommend that waste generated be well managed, all the grasses be trimmed periodically and be fumigated to curb against infestation of reptiles as well as both macro and micro organism which can pose threat to immediate inhabitants.

He also urged the office to embrace the agency's recommendations by patronizing the state accredited fumigators cum accredited waste consultant and should always keep the agency abreast of its fumigation exercise to enable the agency perform its supervisory role for better service delivery and for safety caution.

Responding, the Executive Director, Finance and Supply of the Water Agency, Mrs. Abereoro Olubunmi, appraising the agency's concern on the well being of its staff and general environment, noted that it's office places great value on environmental sanity, especially on the proper maintenance and supervision on rivers, towards making it clean and potable for the citizens.

Abereoro assured the  KWEPA, of its full support to stem the effect of pandemic in the state  and would pay a total compliance to agency's recommendations and its laws.
