The kwara State Environmental Protection Agency in it's efforts to ensure strict adherence to environmental sanity for the safety of lives and property in the State has apprehended an environmental defaulter at Gambari axis, Ilorin.
It was on records that the agency, in the fulfilment of it's statutory duties, had met with the developer of the newly constructed complexes at Gambari Axis, Ilorin while the project was still at foundation level to ensure that Environmental requisites such as waste management, drainages and toilet facilities are all adequately taken care of.
To the dismay of the office, KWEPA, after several cautions and recommendations made available to the developer of the building in question, its order was flaunted, of which abatement notices have been served on the place; yet, the developer gave no regard which led to the eventual sealing of the place, Dan-Musa remarked
The General Manager of the Agency, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-musa, therefore, disclosed that action taken by the office became necessary as the offender, who is the occupant of one of the sealed shops, gave no regard to constituted authority, went ahead, unsealed the shop and embarked on his normal trading.
The General Manager, who disclosed that the action of the accused person is considered a total disobedience to environmental laws, same is equally a clear contravention of law and order, tantamount to violation of KWEPA's law Cap K 16, 2012; adding that, this would be an apt step towards inhibiting environmental sanity culture for effective standard on construction and to bridge environmental deficit in the state.
The report of the exercise was read as follows:
Following the sealing order placed on the said building complexes at Gambari axis at the early hours of Tuesday, 15th November, 2022, it took not less that ten hours that one Ahmed who is the occupant of one of the shops took law into his hand unsealed the agency's sticker, broke the padlock and went ahead with his trading activities.
The agency has however swung into action gave a matching order to it's Environmental Impact Assessment Department, reported the case at the State Police Command (C Division) and immediately nab the offender for questioning and further action.
At the moment of release of this story, the defaulter is presently in Police Custody while awaiting possible arrest of the developer, and pending subsequent necessary action would be taken or possible prosecution.
