KWEPA Penalizes Defaulters, Destroyed Expired Drinks.

The kwara State Environmental Protection Agency KWEPA has penalized two defaulters and destroyed expired drinks recovered at the scene.

The General Manager of the Agency, Alh. Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, gave the directive following the release of the culprits from remand at the office of Kwara State Civil Defence Corps, in Ilorin recently.

Recall that Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, recently, apprehended two violators caught dumping indiscriminately at the late hour of Friday, 20th January, 2023 at Amilegbe Bridge, Ilorin.

Sequel upon the disciplinary court set up by the agency on the matter on Monday, 23rd January, 2023 following the offenders' release from the State Civil Defence Corps, Ilorin; the two accused persons have been convicted of constituting nuisance and aiding environmental impunity in the public area; an action capable of  posing serious threats to the well being of the common masses in the area.

Meanwhile, both the offenders having conscientiously admitted to the counts charged against them, and pleaded for prerogative of mercy, were convicted of fine, respectively.

The verdict, according to the Head of Waste Management and Complaints Unit of the Agency, Mrs. Fasilat Tajudeen, was in consonance with the provision of the State Environmental Law and KWEPA Law, Cap 16, 2012.

Subsequently, sanitary and  laboratory team were conducted to ensure that all the expired drinks seized were destroyed immediately.

In the process, no less than Twenty Seven Cartons of expired drinks were poured into the dug hole and buried accordingly.

In her remark, the Head of Waste Management Unit, Mrs. Fasilat Tajudeen while destroying the exhibit, explained that the method applied conforms with the laid down professional standard and very much hygienic.

"the destruction of the apprehended expired drinks is today taking place at the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, Ilorin.

" the method adopted is in line with the laid down Environmental Standard and is very much hygienic, we do this to prevent the drinks being taken by innocent destitute in the metropolis where it has been dumped thereby cubing against any health hazard in that regard, Tajudeen explained.
